    Genesis

From a modest beginning in 1986 to its present identity as PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Almora, the Vidyalaya has traversed a remarkable journey of growth, transformation and educational excellence.
PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Almora commenced its educational journey on 26 July 1986, initially with Classes I to V. In its formative years, the Vidyalaya functioned from a temporary building at Poorvi Pokharkhali, Almora. With a steadily growing student community and the progressive addition of higher classes, the institution gradually developed into a full-fledged Senior Secondary Kendriya Vidyalaya offering education up to Class XII.

    A New Campus – A New Chapter
The year 1999 marked an important milestone in the history of the Vidyalaya when it shifted from its temporary premises to its own permanent campus at Syalidhar on Kosi Road, near RTO Almora. Situated approximately 8 kilometres from Almora Bus Stand, the campus, set amidst the serene surroundings of the Kumaon hills, provides an enriching and conducive environment for learning and holistic development.
The transition to its permanent campus represented much more than a change of location. It marked a new phase in the growth of the institution, providing greater opportunities for strengthening academic programmes, co-curricular activities and the overall educational experience of its students.

    Growing with Changing Educational Needs
Over the years, the Vidyalaya has continued to evolve in accordance with the changing educational landscape and the vision of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. Presently, it is a single-section school, providing a continuous educational journey from the foundational stage to the senior secondary level.
With the introduction of Balvatika-III, the Vidyalaya has extended its educational outreach to young learners at the foundational stage. Emphasis is placed on joyful, play-based and activity-oriented learning, laying a strong foundation for the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional and physical development of children.
At the Senior Secondary level, the Vidyalaya offers Science and Commerce streams in Classes XI and XII, providing students with opportunities to pursue their academic interests and prepare themselves for higher education and diverse career pathways.

    The PM SHRI Chapter
The transformation of the institution into PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Almora represents another significant milestone in its continuing journey. As a PM SHRI School, the Vidyalaya strives to exemplify the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 and to provide an inclusive, equitable and engaging learning environment.
The Vidyalaya continues to strengthen competency-based and experiential learning, technology-enabled education, skill development, environmental consciousness, inclusive practices, sports, art and holistic development. The focus extends beyond academic achievement to nurturing curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication and responsible citizenship among learners.

    A Legacy that Continues
From its humble beginning with Classes I to V in a temporary building at Poorvi Pokharkhali in 1986, to the establishment of its permanent campus at Syalidhar in 1999, and subsequently to its emergence as PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Almora, the history of the Vidyalaya reflects a continuous journey of progress and purposeful transformation.
Today, the Vidyalaya stands firmly rooted in the values and traditions built over the years while embracing contemporary approaches to education. It remains committed to providing quality education and creating opportunities through which every learner can discover, develop and realise his or her potential.
